Adult Programs

Anyone looking to learn more about Chinese America history/culture will enjoy our variety of programs offered year round. Check our events page for the most current list of programs like book readings, film screenings or drop-in tours. If visiting the museum in a group, any of the school programs would also be appropriate for adults of 10 or more.

Docent Program

CHSA offers workshops twice a year to those interested in becoming Museum Docents or Street Tour Guide. These series are open to high school youth and adults who wish to support-and are enthusiastic about-CHSA Museum’s efforts to inform the general public about the history of the Chinese American Community. Topics include:

History of Chinese in the United States and Chinatowns.

Spanish Colonial era through founding of California as a State. Reviewing factors that brought Chinese to the United States and subsequently being “driven out” by discriminatory laws against them.

History of Chinese in California and San Francisco.

History of Yerba Buena and San Francisco and the impact of events as 1849 Gold Rush, 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire of San Francisco, WWII, and post-Civil Rights era. Review how to focus attention of large groups while moving through the crowded streets of Chinatown.
