Dear Friends,
I am humbled and honored to have been asked to be the interim Executive Director. I am passionate about the mission of the Chinese Historical Society of America and the great work it has performed over the past fifty years.
Recent and deeply troubling events in Charlottesville, Virginia and elsewhere throughout the country arising from racial hatred perpetrated by white supremacists and neo-Nazis demonstrate that to understand (or misunderstand) history is to lay a foundation for the present and the future. The Chinese American experience matters because it illuminates not only times of racial intolerance, but it also teaches important lessons about what it means to be an American.
Your membership and support for the work at CHSA is more important than ever. Recalling our past, and the many contributions Chinese Americans have made to our country, is a vital task toward securing our future. I look forward to continuing CHSA’s half-century commitment to bring to you new programs that inform and enlighten not only our members but also the community at large.
I am very interested in your thoughts about CHSA and our continued work, and I will be reaching out for input from you, as well as our partners in how we can advance our mission. In the meantime, I welcome any thoughts that you would like to share. Please contact me at Jane.Chin at chsa.org.
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Jane Chin
