CHSA visitor accessibility guide

All CHSA Museum galleries are fully wheelchair accessible by elevator. ADA entrance is located on Joice St. Ask for assistance at front desk and our staff would love to help.


Masks are required for all visitors.

CHSA is located at 965 Clay St. Between Powell St and Stockton St.

By Bus and Subway

Our facility is within one block from bus lines: 1 California, 30 Stockton.

By Subway

Coming by subway, CHSA is 2 blocks away from the Rose Pak Central Subway line (station currently under construction).

By Cable Car

Public Transportation by historic Cable Car is fun and easy. Did you know that Cable Cars are the only mobile national monument?

CHSA is conveniently located one block (downhill) from the Powell St. Cable car line. And 2 blocks away from the California St Cable Car line. Stop at Powell and walk to Clay St.. the museum will be down the hill 1/2 a block on the right.

Cable cars are an enjoyable and environmentally friendly way to navigate San Francisco. You can catch the cable car at the Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf, or from Market St.


  • The museum does not have on-site parking.
  • There are several public pay parking lots within 1 – 5 blocks. Street parking is free all day Sunday and holidays.
  • Metered and timed parking policies apply at other times.

There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms on each floor accessible via elevator.

An all-gender restroom and family restroom is available.


All public galleries at CHSA are wheelchair accessible. CHSA is unable to provide wheelchairs at this time.


Guests with disabilities who need caregiver assistance receive free general admission for the caregiver.
