The QiXi Festival is celebrated every year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month with various traditions. Over the years in China, the story has been told through painting, visual arts, Chinese opera, and performance.
In celebration of QiXi Festival (also known as the Double Seventh Festival or Chinese Valentine’s Day), CHSA Museum invites you to an afternoon of social dancing, art making, sharing of memories, and a presentation on the mythology around QiXi, a story about the hidden love between two people: Niulang and Zhinü.
1. Two art making stations: calligraphy and fingerprinting
2. Presentation on the history and significance of Niulang and Zhinü, the tradition of Qixi, and it’s similarities to Valentine’s Day
3. Learn how to do the chacha with Willy Tsai and Windy Lai and become a hit at future dance parties
This free event is part of CHSA’s Chinatown Memories Project. Rick Quan will be conducting interviews of select and interested couples about memorable experiences meeting their partners/spouses/loved ones for the first time. If you are interested in sharing your stories for this CHSA video project, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Chinatown Memories Project is an initiative to share stories of historic businesses and individuals and their relationship to the development of the Chinatown community, to bring greater understanding of the Chinatown experience.
