Founded in 1963, CHSA is the oldest and largest organization in the country dedicated to the documentation, study, and presentation of Chinese American history. Through exhibitions, publications, and educational, public programming, CHSA promotes the contributions and legacy of Chinese America.

Friends of Roots in 2012 established Roots: Him Mark Lai Family History Project, named in honor of our beloved teacher Him Mark Lai. The program will provide a deeper exploration of the Chinese American experience, including:

Continuing the legacy of Him Mark Lai through education and promotion of Chinese American history, culture, genealogy and experience.
