Meet & Greet with Roy Chang
March 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Hawaii Indie comic book author and artist Roy Chang is returning to CHSA to share his newest graphic novel Jinshan: Gold Mountain. Set in modern Chinatown, San Francisco, Jinshan ties in the history of Chinese immigrants from the Gold Rush to the Chinese Exclusion Act to Chinese Americans in World War II, while also dealing with contemporary issues such as affordable housing and crimes against the elderly. Jinshan follows 16-year-old Mindi Min, who lives in a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) apartment in Chinatown. Mindi learns the history of Jinshan from her elderly neighbor and is given the mantle as the next Jinshan. Creative liberty is taken in his story, but the locations and stories of Chinese Americans facing social injustices are told in the context.
Roy will be available to share the story of Jinshan, have a free draw session, and discuss indie comics. Exclusive coloring sheets from his work will also be provided for guests.
This event is free with paid admission to the museum or CHSA membership. Click here to register for the event and purchase your museum ticket in advance.
