It’s no wonder that San Franciscans are a bit smug about their city. In less than seven generations, the City has evolved from a dusty little port town to a commercial and cultural giant–a city with natural beauty, economic viability and cultural diversity, as evidenced in its many ethnic neighborhoods. Here, native-born melded with those arriving from other countries to create a rich, colorful and diverse patchwork that is world-renowned.
Since the first Expo in 2011, more than 7,000 people have rediscovered their own history through artifacts, photographs and oral histories, and have added personal oral histories to their neighborhood archives. “The History Expo was so detailed, you want to linger and absorb everything…Get there early!” advises one Expo-goer. “…a wonderful way to show San Francisco and its unique districts,” says another.
Exhibitors will fill the first floor of the Old Mint with additional organizations in the historic vaults on the ground floor. This is also the location of the Expo Theater where films showing so many of the long-past San Francisco attractions, in addition to special presentations.
