Join us for our September Second Saturday event, when we will be showing Valerie Soe’s short film “The Chinese Gardens,” which made its rounds throughout many festivals in 2012. The Chinese Gardens looks at the lost Chinese community in Port Townsend, Washington, examining anti-Chinese violence—lynchings, beatings, and murders—in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1800s and drawing connections between past and present race relations in the U.S Along with SFSU Associate Professor Wesley Ueunten, there will be a discussion about the film’s subject matter and the process of how this film was made.
