2019 marks the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the U.S. Transcontinental Railroad, and the labor of Chinese railroad workers were instrumental to its completion in 1869. The work to recognize their contributions and tell their stories has been the driving force of the Chinese Historical Society of America since the beginnings of our organization. In 1969, CHSA initiated an effort to obtain recognition for the Chinese who helped build the first Transcontinental Railroad on the occasion of its 100th anniversary celebration.
We are proud to share our exhibits, publications, and events with the public to celebrate the 150th Golden Spike Anniversary and advance the latest scholarship about Chinese involvement in constructing the Transcontinental Railroad.
